Never, never be afraid to do what is right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society's punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way- Martin Luther King
Are you ready for action? We are! The San Diego Animal Defense Team has a great campaign-in-progress, with our first protest on Sat. January 7. We will keep you informed with a calendar of protests on this site.We are pushing hard for an ordinance to ban puppy stores and have that as our primary goal in 2012. We are working in coalition with APRL and also still anticipate that Band of Mercy will be down from LA to join us. We will keep you informed of the progress of our law suit when the court date is set.
As we begin our 4th year together, we end 2011 on a wonderful string of successes. We began the year celebrating the closing of the Pet Works store in Grossmont Center, site of dozens of our protests, and in quick succession:
*organized (with Ferdinand's Familia) a successful donation of supplies for the Black Hat Humane Society, the only rescue group on the vast Navajo reservation
*celebrated the closing of Puparazzi, the Mission Valley Shopping Center puppy store, site of several of our protests
*completed our Spring protest campaign at the California Pets store in Escondidio, with an extensive investigation of a large number of their puppy mill breeders (see postings in our archives)
*put a public face on media and Board of Directors complaints concerning the controversial leadership of the San Diego Humane Society with a protest in front of the facility (We are encouraged that a subsequent change in leadership may be taking the SD organization in a more open direction.)
*continued our annual horseracing protest with the August action during the California Classic race at the Del Mar Racetrack
*pressured San Diego's Horton Plaza to abandon the mall's agreement with San Diego Puppy, an online seller of puppies
*launched our current campaign at Puppy Star's during their opening week in August.
This site has extensive documentation of our actions and information about the issues we address. Please browse and check out older posts for research and information about puppy mills and pet stores and other animal rights issues.
Thanks for supporting us and being members of the Animal Defense Team. Together, we will continue to stand on the frontlines of the rights of animals to be free from suffering at the hands of humans.
We are fighting a multi-million $$$ industry that has paid Washington lobbyists, and is based on the most heinous animal abuse and cruelty.
The corporations --pet store breeders, brokers, owners -- have hundreds of lobbyists. The animals have only us.
